By instituting common law and uniform worker classification act employment tests, we can ensure that individuals have the freedom to choose the work arrangements that best fit their needs and circumstances. This can include creating flexible benefits solutions, such as state health savings accounts and improved access to worker benefits, as well as supporting home-based businesses and other forms of flexibility for self-employed and small businesses.

We know a bottom-up approach that fosters openness and mutual benefit works, and we are committed to creating conditions that allow individuals to achieve self-actualization and dignity. These policies are a step in the right direction towards a more equitable and prosperous society for all.

Occupational licensing is the process of obtaining a government permit, essentially a permission slip from a bureaucracy, in order to work in a specific profession. They often restrict access to certain industries and increase the cost of services. Many of these licenses are unnecessary and can be harmful to those seeking to provide for themselves and their families.

The idea behind occupational licensing is that by restricting entry into a profession, it will weed out unqualified individuals and increase the overall quality of services. Unfortunately, research has shown that these supposed benefits often don’t pan out and consumers end up paying more for goods and services as a result of licensing requirements.

In some states, the average lower-income occupational license can cost over $450 and requires 600 days of training. These requirements can be a significant barrier to employment. In the 1950s, only about one in twenty Americans needed a license to work. Now, that number is one in four.

While occupational licensing is supposed to protect consumers by increasing the quality of service, it often serves entrenched interests by protecting them from competition. In the end, consumers end up paying more for goods and services as a result.
This policy does do one thing really well, though. It keeps people out of certain occupations.

We believe that everyone should have the right to choose how they want to work and contribute to society. We support worker choice and the idea of mutual benefit, where individuals and institutions can come together to build productive and fulfilling relationships.

Unfortunately, government policies often stand in the way of this vision. Collective bargaining and mandatory unionization limit the ability of individuals to make their own choices about their work. Right to work laws and Janus Rights give workers the freedom to opt-in or out of unions, rather than being forced into one. And ending subsidies for unions and project labor agreements allows for a more level playing field for all workers.

We also support the idea of merit-based hiring and compensation, rather than rigid policies that may not take into account an individual’s unique skills and contributions. By promoting openness and bottom-up solutions, we can create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to achieve self-actualization and reach their full potential. This is a society based on dignity, mutual benefit, and the idea that everyone should be able to succeed through collaboration and hard work.

We believe in the power of the free market competition to incentivize businesses to provide benefits for their employees, including paid leave. We believe that the use of coercive mandates, such as government employer mandates or leave entitlement programs, not only infringes on the freedom of businesses, but also ultimately limits the options and benefits available to employees.

Instead, we support a bottom-up approach that empowers businesses to make their own decisions and rewards them for offering valuable benefits to their employees. By fostering an environment of openness and mutual benefit, we believe that the free market can drive innovation and create a win-win situation for both businesses and employees.

While we support paid leave, we oppose the use of government subsidies to force private sector participation. We believe that businesses should be free to make their own decisions about how to best serve their employees and customers, without interference from the government.
