Luke Hilgemann Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer for Americans for Prosperity Foundation, Luke Hilgemann shapes the national strategic vision for the organization. Hilgemann leads a diverse team of grassroots organizers, community outreach directors and trainers, who work to spread the message of economic freedom by sharing valuable life skills, leadership courses and more.
During his tenure, the organization has built and grown the Bridge to Wellbeing program, which offers skills and knowledge courses designed to help people improve their lives and make the most of the economic freedom they enjoy; and the Grassroots Leadership Academy, which offers certification courses that prepare concerned citizens to take their passion to the next level and become drivers of change in their communities and beyond.
Prior to joining AFP Foundation’s leadership team, Luke also led the organization’s Wisconsin chapter, educating the public about the historic 2010 budget reforms that sparked a turnaround in the state’s economy.
A Wisconsin native, Hilgemann has spent his life fighting for lower taxes, limited government and personal freedom. Before coming to AFP Foundation, he did that work through a number of roles in the Wisconsin legislature, working his way to Chief of Staff for the State Assembly’s majority leader.
Luke currently resides in Virginia with his wife Jayme and their three children. In his spare time, Luke enjoys hunting, fishing and passing the outdoor heritage on to his kids.
Chris Fink President
Chris is the President of Americans for Prosperity Foundation. He is also the President of the Richard and Mary Fink Family Foundation. Prior to joining AFP Foundation in 2009, Chris served as the chief operations officer and co-owner of Johnson & Fink Enterprises, a marketing company that served his other co-owned business, Johnson & Fink Mortgage. He received his business administration degree from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Chris and his beautiful wife Allison are the proud parents of Lucy Marie and Alessa Fay Fink.
Slade O'Brien Vice President, Grassroots Leadership Academy
Slade O’Brien is a grassroots organizer and public affairs professional with more than 20 years of success. Slade began his career working for the Florida Republican Party before joining Citizens for a Sound Economy as Florida Director. There, he transformed the Florida chapter into a 45,000 member powerhouse. Slade served as President of Florida Strategies Group for nine years before joining AFP Foundation in 2011 where he now serves as Vice President for the Grassroots Leadership Academy.
Victor Bernson VP of Legal and General Counsel
Victor E. Bernson, Jr. is Vice President and General Counsel of Americans for Prosperity Foundation.
Prior to his arrival at AFP Foundation, he served as Director of Legal Affairs at The Pew Charitable Trusts and as General Counsel for DCI Group, a political advocacy firm in Washington, D.C.
During the Bush Administration, Mr. Bernson served as General Counsel for the White House Office of Administration, and as Legislative Counsel for the U.S. Department of Defense in Secretary Rumsfeld’s office. He also served for 3 years in the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys at the U.S. Department of Justice.
From 1990 to 1998, Mr. Bernson was an active duty U.S. Navy officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served two years at sea and six consecutive years stationed abroad in the Philippines and Italy.
Mr. Bernson spent 5 years on the Board of Education for Anne Arundel County, Maryland – one of the 50 largest state boards in the nation – and he also served as an appointed Member of the Maryland Higher Education Commission. In 2010, he ran for the Maryland House of Delegates, in what became a closely-contested race decided by only 80 votes.
Outside of work he continues to serve as an Executive Board Member for the Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council, and as a Board Member of the Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth & Families.
Mr. Bernson received his BA from Brown University, his JD from Boston University, and has received an MS from the U.S. Naval War College.
A resident of Millersville, MD, Mr. Bernson has been a community leader serving in multiple volunteer capacities. He has traveled to 49 U.S. states and 54 separate countries. He has been married to his wife Helena for 26 years and has two children, Alexandra (age 25) and Bobby (age 23).
Lindsay Matlock Director of Operations
Lindsay Matlock directs the activity of the Bridge to Wellbeing program at AFP Foundation. In this role, she turns big visions into tactical plans.
Lindsay is a native Tennessean and grew up on a farm that has been in her family for 7 generations. From a young age, she worked in her family’s small business and learned that only through economic freedom can individuals, businesses, and communities strive for their vision of the American Dream.
Prior to joining AFP Foundation in 2012, she served as the Political Director of the Susan B. Anthony List. Lindsay and her dog, Gilbert, can usually be found on an airplane or stalking ducks.
